A few years ago a good friend of mine Cynthia Lee cane to me asking if I
would repaint a Barbie to match a costume she had bought at a recent convention.
Well I was very happy to and that was my first one of a kind Barbie. My love for antique bisque dolls lead me to taking porcelain doll making
classes. After a couple of years I began giving classes myself in my home for
porcelain doll making.
During this time we got our first home computer, got on line and ebay and
before too long I found listings for ooak Barbies. I made a few Glam type ooak Barbies that did pretty good!
But one day while browsing ebay for leopard print pajamas, I came across
listing for Gothic clothing? Well, I was so surprised to find this new Gothic interest! And being a lover of Gothic and Vampire Horror films especially the Hammer films from the late 50's and early 60's. I used to stay up all night watching horror films as a child. The thought crossed my mind ... hmmmm a Vampire Barbie??!! I can do that!
And I did, the 3 dollar yard sale Barbie after my customizing sold for
$150.00 and well that was it! I've been doing Gothic/Vampire dolls ever since.
I can confidently say I was the first doll artist to ever offer a Vampire
Barbie on ebay! With the interest rising in Gothic doll art, I created my Yahoo Group "Gothic Girls doll Makers Club", a group for artists and collectors
which celebrated its second anniversary in September 2002. Many of my dolls are inspired by my Daughter Jayde's art work! Jayde has an amazing eye for design and color and is my most valuable critic!
Although 90% of my doll art is gothic, I do often make other dolls, angels,
victorian ladies, mermaids, and cloth dolls. I also design and make clothes for vintage mod dolls! I especially enjoy making non-gothic dolls for my Mom who has been my best supporter and best friend! I must admit I am a very happy "doll lady" living in north central Texas, just about an hour south of Dallas Fort Worth area with my husband, 3 kids and 4 cats.
